NEWS ALERT: Cooling Center for Colton Residents, Pets

Riverside County Animal Services is providing a cooling center for Colton residents and their pets at its shelter location in Jurupa Valley, 6851 Van Buren Blvd.

"In light of Colton's current power outage, we want to help our partner city," Animal Services Director Robert Miller said.

The city of Colton has its own animal control officers, but residents' stray pets are sheltered at Riverside County's location in Jurupa Valley.

"This heat wave is a serious one, and we want to do our part to assist residents in Colton -- and their pets," Miller said.

Colton residents are asked to come to the shelter's first-floor training center room, located just to the right of the main lobby doors.

Residents should note that the training center is not being used as a board-and-care facility. Pet owners will need to stay with their animals.

Water for pets and owners will be made available.

The training center is air conditioned and has chairs and tables for residents.
