Dead Burmese Python Measured 17+ Feet

MONDAY, Feb. 2, 2016 – A Riverside County Animal Services responded to a call from a local dump where workers discovered a big, long snake inside one of the loads Tuesday.

Animal Control Officer Christopher Peck retrieved the snake, an albino Burmese python, was already dead when the workers discovered it. The reptile measured 17 feet, 7 inches long.

Although it would be hard to determine what caused the snake’s death, it’s very likely the snake died of natural causes and the pet owner illegally dumped it without detection.

Riverside County Animal Services officers have impounded Burmese pythons in past years, but those snakes were alive and had somehow escaped their pet owners’ properties.

The albino Burmese will be properly disposed of by Riverside County Animal Services.
