Fire Incident Next to Shelter in Jurupa Valley

May 2, 2022

This afternoon the staff jumped into action to evacuate animals from the north side of the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley.

A fire started burning sometime at approximately 4:20 p.m. The flames were a short distance from an area at the shelter used for livestock. There is also one bungalow used to house dogs and cats just west of the barn area. Staff members evacuated that bungalow and the livestock area and relocated the animals to a safer location within the campus.

All told, 19 dogs, 18 cats, about a dozen birds, three pigs and two horses were relocated.

The following link (below) showcases some of the action from our firefighting friends and our team members. CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department is the lead for fire-related information. Thank you for your interest.
