Kitten Rescued from Inside Locomotive

November 11, 2021

Kitty Meowed from Smoke Box

Riverside County Animal Services officers retrieved a kitten from inside a locomotive at Fairmount Park in Riverside.

The ancient train was installed at Fairmount Park in the 1950s. Feral cats and kittens are known to frequent the area and the kitten, presumably climbed the exhaust stack before falling into the smoke box.

Officers responded several times and could hear the kitten’s meows, but they could not access the smoke box. Ultimately, they were able to remove the front door and placed two traps inside the box.

On Wednesday, the kitten was discovered in one of the traps. The kitten was transported to the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley and examined by veterinary technicians.

The kitten appears to be shy, but in good health.
