Green Iguana

October 2, 2019

Just a short, fun note here to share one of our officer’s interesting calls this morning. Riverside County Animal Control Officer Michael Cox retrieved a green iguana from a man’s yard in Riverside. The iguana was spotted initially on Wednesday at a property on Greenpoint Avenue in Riverside.

It apparently startled the residents at first. Then it disappeared and they assumed it wandered off to where it lived. Nope. It resurfaced today when one of the residents spotted the scaly visitor atop a fence.

It is believed to be a male and it was very easy for the officer to retrieve from the property. Officer Michael Cox (featured in one of the attached photos) reported that the critter was very docile.

The iguana will be held until a rightful owner shows up to the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter to redeem his/her scaly buddy. If the owner does not show, Animal Services will likely work with one of its rescue partner organizations specializing in reptiles.
