Big Tortoise Scooped up in Jurupa Valley

October 2, 2017

With so much happening in the world that has brought tears to our eyes, here’s something a little lighter.

Well, actually, this is a very heavy story too. Officer Christopher Peck scooped up this massive tortoise (see below) this afternoon in Jurupa Valley at about 4 p.m. It was so big, it took the helping hands of a kind man to load the Sulcata tortoise into his animal control truck. It weighs about 150 pounds. The good news? Earlier today – prior to Officer Peck’s arrival to the shelter – a man came in asking about whether we had impounded any tortoises. That gives us some hope we’ll be talking about a tortoise reunion very soon.
