Get Your Kicks or Licks on Route 66

August 11, 2016

County Teams up with Fido Friendly Mag

THURSDAY, AUG. 11, 2016 – Riverside County Animal Services is teaming with Fido Friendly

Magazine again for a special promotion connected to the famous Route 66.

Fido Friendly’s Eighth Annual Get Your Licks on Route 66 is the magazine’s way of promoting homeless animals in shelter locations that are dotted along – or near – the historic east-west corridor.

And on Sept. 9, the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley is the kickoff location for the 15-shelter, cross-country pet adoption tour.

To help celebrate the event, Riverside County is offering a special. All dog adoptions will be lowered to $66 on that Friday (Sept. 9) at the county’s main shelter, 6851 Van Buren Blvd., Jurupa Valley. Cat adoptions will be offered at a special, two-fur-one-price fee for $66. (For those interested in just one cat, the adoption special will be just $33.)

More than 5,000 pets have been adopted since Fido Friendly Magazine started the annual event.

“Although we know our main shelter is not a direct stop along the historic Route 66, we’re certainly honored to be represented in this annual adoption campaign,” Animal Services Director Robert Miller said. “Anything that brings attention to our homeless animals is appreciated.”

To encourage would-be adopters, the publication and co-sponsors will have a representative at the county’s Jurupa Valley location with a giant spinning wheel. Visitors can spin the wheel after making a small donation, with all proceeds benefiting the host shelter.

Some of the prizes will be from the various sponsors of the event. Some of those sponsors for the spinning wheel include Kids N Pets, Fresh Scents, Buddy Belts, Kurgo, The Honest Kitchen, Sleepypod, Rescue Remedy, West Paw Design, Pet Gift Box, Hillhouse Naturals, Squeak N Snap and Charlee Bear.
