Group of Volunteers Heading to MemphisJust a short little news note here about something very special.
As many of you know, the South has been hammered with deadly storms and devastating floods. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has been in the region for several weeks organizing efforts to help displaced pets and make sure all animals are receiving proper care. The ASPCA put out a request for more volunteers and three volunteers – and one employee – from the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter are deploying for Memphis early Thursday morning out of Los Angeles International Airport.
Two of the volunteers live in Riverside and the third is a resident of Menifee. Christopher Alderson, a veterinary technician for Riverside County Animal Services, will be using his own vacation time to assist in the efforts thousands of miles from his Riverside home.
The ASPCA is paying for the volunteers' flights.
The team is meeting at the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter (6851 Van Buren Blvd., Jurupa Valley, Calif. 92509) at 4 a.m. and departing shortly thereafter.
Their flight leaves at 8 a.m.
Volunteer Services Manager Candace McGrew will be driving the volunteers to LAX. She will be taking pictures of them in the morning and, if there is any interest from media outlets, we are happy to send those your way.
Thank you for your interest!
We wish this group a safe journey and we're proud that they're a part of our team here at Riverside County Animal Services.
