Microchipping
It is highly recommended that you have a microchip inserted under the skin of the neck area of your pet. The chip is very small and the insertion process is relatively painless. Scanners are used by all animal shelters in Riverside County. Animals are scanned when they initially are brought in and at each step during handling, but especially prior to euthanasia. Even if your pet has a license or identification tag, it is a good idea to have him microchipped just in case the collar or tags come off.
Microchip insertion: $15 (Microchip fee is included in the cost of adoption.)
Additional information about microchips:
If you move or change your phone number, YOU MUST contact RCDAS and the microchip company in order to keep your information updated in both systems.
AVID microchip - (800) 336-2843
HomeAgain 1-888-HOMEAGAIN (1-888-466-3242)
AVID and Home Again are the two major companies. Other microchips exist but they do not show up on most of the scanners, so it is important that you ask questions before you purchase any of these private chips. RCDAS uses AVID chips and any chips we place are registered in all of Riverside County through a computer system.
Euthanizing
Animal Services provides humane euthanizing services for pet owners
who determine that their pet's health makes it necessary. This may
be because the pet is too old or has medical issues that prevent
it from having a good quality of life. An owner may also determine
that their pet is dangerous with no hope of behavior change.
Humane Euthanasia: $25
