Help Stop U.S. Birthrate of 5,500 Pets Per Hour
In the U.S., more pets are born per hour than people!
Every hour in the United States, more than 2000 dogs and 3500 cats are born, compared to 415 people, according to the Animal Assistance League. The yearly statistics include more than 17 million dogs and 30 million cats. Add these animals to an existing pet population of 54 million dogs and 56 million cats and you can see why the total continues to rise!
Earlier puberty, multiple births and briefer pregnancies make dogs and cats far more prolific than humans.
Animal care and control agencies do their best to find loving, responsible owners for as many pets as possible, but there are simply not enough homes for all these animals.
American Humane Association estimates more than 15 million healthy, friendly dogs and cats will be euthanized this year simply because they are unwanted and would otherwise die of starvation, injury or disease (or spread disease), be run over by vehicles, be killed by other animals or any number of other cruel fates.
You can save lives and help solve the pet overpopulation tragedy by neutering or spaying your pet. This will reduce the number of dogs and cats being euthanized by reducing the number of pets being born. Every puppy and kitten that is born takes away a home from an animal already at our shelter. If you would like to share the miracle of birth with your children, please consider becoming a foster parent for a pregnant dog or cat that is already at our shelter. Call (951) 358-7387.
